Mabel Gets Lucky — The Lexington Line

Need something new to listen to? British pop singer, Mabel, announced her newest single “Good Luck” featuring electronic artists Galantis and Jax Jones. Having released her latest single “Let Them Know” in early 2021, this comes to excitement for Mabel’s die-hard fans since she teased her sophomore album About Last Night at the end of the "Let Them Know” music video. This latest announcement has excited her fans looking forward towards her sophomore release, as it is expected to be a step-up from her debut.

Mabel McVey is the daughter of the famous music industry couple Neneh Cherry and Cameron McVey, who are both talented and notable music artists and producers in United Kingdom. Mabel had started out as a smaller RnB artist with recognition from Adele and other artists with her songs “Know Me Better” and “My Boy My Town”. Shortly after the release of “My Boy My Town”, Mabel was signed to acclaimed UK-based music label Polydor Records. Not short after these releases, she had dropped her first EP titled “Bedroom” which featured a mixture of pop and RnB styled like tracks. One of her most notable releases was her mixtape, “Ivy to Roses” which original cover had been a fan-made piece. This mixtape displayed her largest hit to date “Don’t Call Me Up” which rivaled against Dua Lipa’s “New Rules”.

In August of 2019, Mabel had released her debut album, High Expectations, which was a hit among her fans. Critics were not as impressed with the album due to the album’s lack of personality and vulnerability from Mabel. Although critics weren’t the biggest of fans, Mabel had back-to-back headlining shows in festivals across Europe and eventually had a smaller sold-out North American tour.

After the multitude of tours and sold-out shows, Mabel had won The Brit Award for Best Female Artist in 2020, just the day before her 23rd birthday. This era soon had its close with the height of the pandemic, and Mabel started continuing and finalizing her sophomore album, About Last Night. Only months ago, she had posted snippets of her new songs on TikTok, making the shortened clips available to use as audios on the app. The rumored songs titles from the snippets include, “Definition”, “Butterflies”, “Let Love Go”, and “Crying on the Dancefloor”.

These snippets hold the fans onto the hope that the album comes out soon. Now that “Good Luck” is officially out and Mabel’s recent performance at Comic Relief in the UK, it seems like the album rollout is on its way. Go take a listen and get ready for the upcoming release of About Last Night!
