5 Podcasts to Listen to On Your Commute

I was on my way to class, extremely bored, and then I came up with the thought of why not listen to a podcast? Best decision I ever made. Ever see someone in the street and they are just smiling and laughing to themselves, and wonder what they are thinking about? That person is now me. I get on the subway and listen to whatever podcast I decide that day, usually ending up laughing and/or smiling to myself. The great thing about podcasts is that since there are so many different ones out there, everyone is bound to find one they enjoy listening to. So here is a curated list of some great and fun podcasts for you to listen to the next time you want to become that person on the subway smiling to themselves for reasons unknown to the rest.

1. Modern Love: This one might sound a tad familiar, because last year Amazon made an eight episode TV series based off stories from this very podcast. Hosted by Meghna Chakrabarti, this heartwarming podcast has a celebrity guest come every week and read a crazy story about love, loss, or redemption sent in by fans. The stories range from epic tales of first loves and the struggles of marriage. If you want to start or end your day with the possibility of believing in love once again, then this is your match.

2. My Favorite Murder: On the quite opposite side of the spectrum, if you are not fascinated by the wonders of love, but in fact by the mysteries of serial killers and murderers, don’t worry there is a podcast out there for you too. Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark host this podcast, and they find a fascinating (also usually terrifying) murder, and read off all the facts they could find when researching. They discuss, quite comically at times, their opinions on the matter. Also, every other episode is a mini-episode where they read off stories sent in by fans that believe or actually know they just escaped a murderer themselves. This is not one for the weak.

3.  Armchair Expert: Actor Dax Shepard is the host of this interview style podcast, along with his friend Monica Padman. They have honest conversations with some of your favorite celebrities like Emilia Clarke, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Bill Nye. It’s perfect if you would enjoy listening to famous people talk about how they got where they are today.

4. Views: If you are a fan of YouTube at all, then there is a good chance you have heard about David Dobrik and Jason Nash. These two wild influencers host this comedy podcast talking about the craziness of their lives. The number of hilarious stories and celebrity encounters they discuss each week still shocks me every time I listen. With Dobrik being 23 years old and Nash 46, the conversation and constant arguing never seems to get boring. Although I believe this podcast would be more enjoyable if you know who the hosts are, anyone who wants a good laugh would love this.

5. Forever35: Calling all beauty and self-care lovers—this podcast is for you. Hosts Kate Spencer and Dobree Shaefrir ask those hard-hitting beauty questions such as “Which night creams will actually make you look well-rested?” and “Should I start yoga?” Self-care is very important, and it is always nice to hear tips and tricks on how to better yourself. This podcast is great for the people who are maybe just looking for some background noise. Or if you’re looking for the next best moisturizer.
