NYFW: Kim Shui FW’20 Collection

Fashion week has been in full swing the past few days. Spring Studios and Pier 59 is crawling with paparazzi, celebrities, models and of course designers. I had the honor of attending Kim Shui’s show at Spring Studios on Sunday, Feb. 9 to view her new collection for Fall/Winter 2020. Let me tell you the show was fantastic and so worth ditching my evening of watching the Oscars in my PJs. The show was full of energy with bright colors, crazy hair and upbeat music.

Everything from the models that walked to the looks that were worn were perfect and couldn’t have been better in my opinion. Kim Shui always knows how to put on an amazing show. She creates some of the best collections, showing off her depictions of future trends while including inspirations from her own culture. Shui has always showcased interesting silhouettes and intricate designs within her clothing. Many of her pieces can be viewed as modern takes on Asian cultural dress.

This collection showcased 41 sexy chic looks composed of bright colored fabrics and contrasting patterns and textures. The details of this collection were so creative and fun: outgoing hair, crazy accessories and sharp nails took the collection to the next level. The models’ hairstyles was thanks to the styling of Kyle Luu.

Trend Alert:

Babushkas have been seen on rappers like ASAP Rocky and streetwear lovers everywhere. Shui included this lovely and fun accessory all throughout her collection. These silk scarves displayed bold graphics or matching fabrics.

Sneaker Heels and Jeffery Campbell boots were made for walking! These custom Adidas X Kim Shui heels made a statement worn on the models in the show. They look comfy yet glamorous with Swarovski crystal embellishments.

Layering contrasting fabrics has been a popular trend for the last few years. Shui layered faux leathers, silks, and metallics to create fun looks with juxtaposing patterns and unique silhouettes.

Overall, this show was a fantastic experience and the collection was nothing short of beautiful! Thank You, Kim Shui!
