The Met Gala is one of the biggest fashion events of the year, but unfortunately due to the pandemic, the first Monday in May won’t be happening the way it’s been done in the past this year. Fashion fans were deeply devastated that one of their favorite events of the year has been postponed, but High Fashion Twitter came up with a solution.

A couple members from High Fashion Twitter created an account for a virtual Met Gala event. The account, @hfmetgala, gained traction quickly and has even been featured in multiple magazines such as, Vogue Netherland, Paper Magazine, Grazia Mexico, and InStyle Australia. The account created brand challenges that anyone can participate in. These challenges include photoset creation, brand challenge, wardrobe styling, and illustration expression. They’ve also been sharing the history of the Met Gala, educating the fashion Twitterverse.

On April 22nd of this year, Vogue announced a contest that they’ll be judging along with Billy Porter, called #MetGalaChallenge, which will be held on Instagram. The premise of the challenge is to style an outfit based on previous Met Gala red carpet looks. High Fashion Twitter was outraged when the news broke, calling Anna Wintour unoriginal. Some tweets referencing this can be seen below:

Vogue was aware that HF Twitter created this event, but instead of teaming up with them, they took their idea and ran with it.
