Buying Into SS’21 Beauty Trends

There are some glitters of hope this year in beauty. New and old beauty trends have surfaced on social media. Like most things, beauty has been a very unpredictable industry this past year. Before the pandemic, it was common to see a classic red or pink lipstick with eyeshadow done by a makeup artist at a beauty salon, but beauty has come a long way since then. Our homes have become beauty salons and studios. With not a lot to do and being kept inside, it allowed most to find their creative side and learn how to do makeup, hair, and nails through sources and inspiration like TikTok and YouTube.

Some of us ditched the foundation for tinted-moisturizer, while others ditched their cat-eye-winged liner for a more graphic-shaped liner. Despite all of these changes, they all have one thing in common: adaption, innovation, and creativity. New trends such as stained lips, dewy skin, ‘90s bright-colored lashes are on the rise. You know what they say: “The eyes are the window to the soul,” which especially applies now since adapting to the new normal of wearing masks everywhere you go—beauty and creativity on the eyes is the new way to stand out.

Stained Lips

It has not been easy for those who love making statements with their lipstick. Since face masks are not going anywhere anytime soon, it's great that the industry has found ways to still look fabulous without having to worry about your lipstick smudging under your mask! All you have to do is swap out your crème lipstick for a lip tint.

I recommend the Benefit Cosmetics Benetint Rose Lip & Cheek Tint that is perfect for getting a smudge-proof, dual-use, natural-looking pink stain on your lips or cheeks at any time. The Benetint is a non-drying and buildable formula that is perfect if you want a natural-sheer finish or a bold blush revival.

Dewy Skin

Spring is all about being natural, seamless, and glowy for looks this season. Celebrities such as Hailey Bieber and Gigi Hadid are showing the lit-from-inside glowy look. To create these looks, they consist of little to no makeup and an easy, fast application.

Want to Get This Look?

I recommend starting with the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Natural Skin Perfector with SPF 30. This product is the secret to effortless glowing skin. It provides a lightweight sheer tint of coverage and will leave your skin with a dewy finish and also has the benefits of lasting hydration and SPF 30. For the perfect dewy look, you also need a liquid highlighter. The Tower 28 Beauty SuperDew Shimmer-Free Highlighter Balm gives a no-makeup makeup, glassy, dew, luminous look on the skin and also happens to be clean beauty. Lastly, to finish off this look, I recommend the RMS Beauty Tinted Daily Lip Balm to get a hydrating natural tint to the lips that will last up to 12 hours!

Colorful Mascara

Colorful mascara is back and better than ever—2021 will definitely be the year of eyes and lashes. There are so many creative ways to add this trend into your everyday or special makeup routine. The colorful mascara trend has been seen on runways this season and also through TikTok trending videos.

Colorful mascara is the perfect way to add a little spice to your look, considering masks are not going anywhere anytime soon, so your eyes are the perfect place to show your creativity. But, if you wanted to ease into the colorful mascara, there are ways to do that as well. I recommend using a brown mascara or applying your black mascara and then the colorful mascara on top of it to create a sheer hint of color. If you want to take it a step further I also recommend using an eyeliner that would be monochromatic to the color of the mascara to bring more vibrance to the eye. Colorful mascara is also perfect for making your natural eye color become more vibrant.

To get this iconic look I recommend The Sephora Collection, Volume on Mascara which happens to come in four beautiful colors (blue, green, pink, turquoise), NYX Professional Makeup Worth The Hype Colored Mascara, Yves Saint Laurent Beauté Vinyl Couture Mascara, Maybelline New York Great Lash Mascara in Royal Blue, and lastly Dior Diorshow Pump 'n' Volume
