Von Dutch: The Famous Y2K Trucker Hat Company

The early 2000s introduced us to several brands that we fell madly in love with. One of these brands included Von Dutch, whose iconic trucker hats made a statement when they were first released. They were seen on everybody, from singer Justin Timberlake to heiress Paris Hilton. Resparking in 2016, these trucker hats are all the rage on my Pinterest and Instagram feeds.

FLASHBACK TO THE 2000s

The brand was created by the late French designer, Christian Audigier. You may recognize his name since he was also the creative director of another iconic early 2000s brand: Ed Hardy. Currently, the brand is led by executive director Earl Pickens. Pickens continues to push the future of Von Dutch to a place where street culture and luxury fashion blend.

Icons and celebrities such as Ashton Kutcher, Britney Spears, Missy Elliot, and others were caught sporting the trend back in the day. Whether they were worn casually or to something as glamorous as a runway show or movie premiere, these trucker hats were—as Paris Hilton would put it—"hot."

Von Dutch’s Appeal Today

Kylie Jenner was one of the early re-popularizers of Von Dutch in 2016, which at the time was frowned upon. It can now be seen on celebrities like Travis Scott, Megan Thee Stallion, and influencers such as Emma Chamberlain. One of my favorite YouTubers, Stephany Andrea, has been sporting the trucker hat; this sparked my interest in revisiting the trend.

The hats range from $49.99 to $99.00, depending on the style. You can find them on the Von Dutch website or at their store on Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles. Depop is also a great option when searching for one of these hats, secondhand.

Von Dutch created the coveted accessory in the 2000s, and it was brought back into style tenfold. The brand now appeals to the younger generations who were not around or too young to remember the first wave of success. By making sure their newer designs were more modern and contemporary while still mirroring the early 2000s, the brand could be revamped without completely changing its iconic image.

Even if you're not much of a hat person, the Von Dutch trucker is a staple piece to add to your shopping lists for the perfect Y2K wardrobe!
