Celebrating Black Female Owned Beauty Brands

As we know, February is Black History Month. This month is dedicated to celebrating African American culture. All month long we will celebrate Black innovators, artists, and businesses alike. It is imperative that we honor Black creatives who are setting trends both in and outside of the beauty industry. Here are some amazing Black-owned beauty brands to pick up on your next shopping trip.

Pattern Beauty was founded by hair icon Trace Ellis Ross. Owning a haircare brand had been a long-time dream of hers. The line is formulated for people with curls between 3B and 4C textures. The products in this line are meant to provide strength and hydration for your curls without them feeling too greasy and heavy. One of the top-selling products is the Jojoba Oil Hair Serum, which is a lightweight treatment oil for overall hair and scalp health.

Danessa Myricks Beauty:

One of our all time favorite makeup brands is Danessa Myricks Beauty. Danessa Myricks is a world renowned makeup artist who has mastered the art of glow. Her work is nothing short of jaw-dropping, including high-impact shadow looks and radiant skin. Her cosmetics line is truly a work of art and is loved by both professionals and your everyday makeup lovers. Her line includes everything you need to create a full face, but her most popular product is the Colorfix 24 Hour Cream Color, which can be used in a multitude of ways, whether that be on the eyes, lips, face, or even body.

The Lip Bar:

The Lip Bar was created and founded by Melissa Butler who first pitched her product on Shark Tank, but was brutally rejected by the judges. However, that did not stop her from building her lipstick empire. She created The Lip Bar for those who are seeking their perfect lip color formulated with clean ingredients and is 100% vegan. The formulation of the products is incredibly hydrating and includes organic shea, coconut, and avocado oil. The brand has since extended to a full range of cosmetic products including foundation, mascara, blush, and more and can be found at Target.

The Honey Pot:

The Honey Pot is plant-derived feminine care created by Bea Dixon. The Honey Pot sells a wide range of feminine care products that contain no toxins, are recyclable and cruelty-free, and are made with ingredients from the earth. Their catchphrase is “Made by humans with vaginas, for humans with vaginas,” because who knows female anatomy better than women? Not only does this brand have amazing products, but it also is very charitable. The Honey Pot donates 2% of its sales to various women’s health organizations across the globe! You can find more information on these organizations through their website at www.thehoneypot.com.

These are just some of the many amazing brands founded by women of color, and they should be supported both today and every day. It is important that we continue to celebrate these companies and other Black-owned businesses. Happy Black History Month!
