Christopher John Rogers Returns to the Runway with Collection “010”

Since his last in-person show in 2020, fans and supporters of Christopher John Rogers have remained hungry and in awe of the designer. The pandemic and new variants delayed the designer’s return to the runway, but finally on the evening of June 7th, 2022, there was excitement in the air for CJR’s highly-anticipated comeback.

Right in the front row were a handful of friends and supporters like “Prabal Gurung, Victor Glemaud, Hillary Taymour, Peter Do, Raul Lopez, and the Oscar de la Renta designers all sat in the front row,” reveals Vogue.

By now, we know that Roger’s is all about incorporating color into his collections and his skillful ability to create pieces with strong prints that are never too intense, but pleasing to the eye—which I’d like to confidently say is a prime example of dopamine dressing

Roger’s goes beyond the boundaries of typical fashion rules with the mix of prints in his looks—which is the brilliance of the brand. CJR is a determined designer who makes his collections work so effortlessly. “I wanted to say that everything can exist together, everything makes sense if you will it to. I like the idea of multiplicity and that so many things through one specific scope can shine,” Roger’s tells Vogue.

This collection was not only about prints and colors, but more specifically the tailoring and cut of these looks. Looking through collection “010” it is not hard to also catch the alluring elements of the draping, cinching, the dramatic lapels, and the satisfying clean cut. “We’re known for a playful spirit—a certain joie de vivre, but I wanted to clean it up a bit and present something edited and specific…a collection focused on cut, color, and proportion,” Roger’s mentions on his Instagram.

Playful is the perfect word to describe Christopher John Rogers, but what also creates the best paradox is that his collections are sophisticated as well. Roger’s laid out the collection in rainbow order which personally excites my inner child and a delicious visual when reviewing the “010” collection from start to finish. Of course, there are a number of honorable mentions from the show as it was certainly hard to choose as each look makes its own statement.

With the joy and exuberance of CJR’s first time back on the runway in two years which was reflected in the collection, we are finally seeing and celebrating shows in person. I can’t wait to see what is to come in the industry as we slowly but surely recover from the pandemic and CJR is a prime example.
