It’s Vogue World and We’re Just Living in It: The Celebration of Past and Present

What better way to celebrate New York Fashion Week than with Vogue for their 130th anniversary. Thus Vogue World was created to celebrate in style!

In August of this year Vogue announced their plans for a “first-of-a-kind event—featuring a runway show presenting [their] favorite looks from the fall 2022 collections.” Vogue explained that the event would consist of a live editorial fashion show, street fair, and many special surprises for the guests of Vogue World. Large name designers and celebrities joined the party and were announced to be hosts, models, or have their designs showcased in the show. Other designers and New York companies created experiences and snacks to make the street fair come to life.

With the event being live-streamed for those of us who couldn’t attend, we didn't get a taste of the street fair which was lined with venders handing out luxurious treats. Kors x Katz’s and Banana Republic partnered with Magnolia Bakery to show their appreciation for the city, while Fendi made their Baguette bag come to life. Other brands and companies such as; Gucci Osteria, Brother Vellies, Burberry, and Ralph Lauren gave the crowd an elevated street fair experience with high tea, fresh fruits, flowers, and coffee flavored ice cream. Coach and Moncler provided interactive activities for the guests such as customizable souvenir patches and a photo booth from around the world. But the best part of the fair was the New York style “Vogue World Newsstand” displaying past Vogue magazines and current issues with international Vogue editors.

With the eyes of the fashion industry on New York, Vogue took the opportunity to not only celebrate the past 130 years, but to look forward to what’s to come. Throughout the evening Anna Wintour was quoted saying how Vogue “wanted [Vogue World] to reflect the heart of the city and of a great fashion capital.” To incorporate present culture and look towards the future, the runway show started with Serena Williams walking down the long expanse of West 13th street in the former Meat Packing District. She wore a lavish silver gown custom designed by Balenciaga that couldn’t help but get attention. Williams led four girls dressed in the classic all white tennis attire carrying rackets, showing how fashion will change the game’s future, just as Serena Williams did for tennis.

With so many activities, the show will long be remembered as a celebration of fashion in New York. Celebrities like Kanye West, Jared Leto, and Lil Nas X came together to participate in the first-of-a-kind event. Roughly 200 models danced, biked, ran, or marched down the cobble stone streets– bringing energy and life to what is to come in the world of fashion.

As Anna Wintour explains, fashion is changing. Not only was Vogue World a way to celebrate the past that has led to these changes, but it has sparked excitement within the industry to make that change a reality. Vogue proudly gave a nod to the past and kept its eyes on the future through Vogue World’s celebration.
