FALLing in Love This Autumn: The Best Date Ideas

In my opinion, autumn may be the best time of year for romance. The weather is finally cool enough to bundle up with your partner—but not too cold that you’re freezing and miserable. Once September hits, pumpkins are suddenly everywhere, and there’s so much to look forward to. No matter where you live, here are some of the best ways to take advantage of this beautiful season with your partner.

Pumpkin Patch

If you live in a suburban area, I’m sure there’s a pumpkin patch within thirty minutes of you. And if you live in NYC like me, don’t fret! The city may seem like it doesn’t host most of the iconic fall traditions, but Green Meadows Farm and Decker Farm are both perfect options to check out. Just imagine the autumn breeze with a cup of hot cider and your beau on your arm—what could be better?

Apple Picking

Right up the alley with the pumpkin patches, apple picking is a great autumn activity. Plus, if you feel you’re too short for this, maybe you can hop up on your lover’s back or shoulders to reach the top of the tree. What screams love more than a piggyback ride? And again for my city folks, here are nearly thirty places to go apple picking.

Baking & Movie Night

If going outside isn’t really your thing, and you’re on a bit of a budget, don’t worry. Baking and a movie night is the best way to go. Whether you buy Toll House pumpkin spice cookies or make your own pie from scratch, the night is bound to be sweet. And in terms of the movies, there are some great fall movies out there—and it gets even better around Halloween.

Haunted House

Once October hits, don’t miss out on visiting a haunted house, especially if scary is your thing. If your partner tends to be a little jumpy this is even better because they’ll be clinging to you the whole way through. There’s some super spooky haunted houses in NYC, and if your town hosts an annual fall festival, sometimes you can find a haunted maze. Some of these houses only are for one night a year, so be prepared to be frightened!

Picnic

If you have some leftovers from your baking night, this is going to come in handy for your picnic. Pack up your coziest blanket, apple cider, and other fall treats, and head to your nearest park. This article has some great recipes if you need some inspiration for what to bring.

Carving pumpkins

Make sure you hit the pumpkin patch before this one because it’s time to make jack-o-lanterns! Whether you’re great at carving or not, there’s plenty of designs that don’t require too much skill. And if you don’t want to go to a pumpkin patch, don’t worry, there’s plenty of pumpkins at your nearest grocery store!

couples costume

The thing about couples costumes is that there’s really no way to go wrong. Heading to a Halloween Party? You obviously need a costume. Helping pass out candy? More fun if you’re in a costume. Just going to watch scary movies all night? May as well dress up. There’s endless options out there to find the perfect attire for you and your boo!

Friendsgiving

Unfortunately, fall will have to end at some point, but not without Thanksgiving. A friendsgiving potluck is the best way to wrap up the season. Whether you have a million friends, only hang out with your families, or just enjoy spending time with each other—you can celebrate your own friendsgiving. And if you keep it to just you and your partner, that means more leftovers!
