Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2023 Couture Collection: Elegance Meets Vibrance

On January 25th, Paris Couture Week featured the spectacular Jean Paul Gaultier Spring Haute Couture collection.

Guest designed by Haider Ackermann, the looks displayed on the runway were mesmerizing. The French designer received a standing ovation at the end of the show and is the fourth guest designer to take over one of Gaultier's Couture collections.

“I knew Jean Paul liked my work, but I never thought this would come my way. I'm already a long time in business. It’s usually like, okay, give it to the younger ones,” says Ackermann. “And so, to design is one of the most wonderful feelings. I really love my job, and this made me love it even more. It’s been like a love affair between me, and the ladies in the atelier.”

A few days before the designs hit the runway, Ackermann posted a series of behind-the-scenes photos of his work on his Instagram page with the caption “the meticulous hours and endless threads.”

Star-Studded Attendees

Businesswoman Kylie Jenner was spotted at the show channeling Madonna, wearing a corset dress with a bodice inspired by the artist's iconic cone bra in her "Blond Ambition" tour, designed by Ackermann himself.

Singer Doja Cat also attended, wearing a tailored blue leather trench coat and a matching belt. She accessorized this striking look with some rectangular sunglasses, black gloves, and a bag shaped like grapes.

Our favorite actor Timothée Chalamet supported Ackermann at the show by wearing an all-black ensemble; he wore a jacket with embroidered branches paired with sequined tailored pants.

The Collection

The collection featured a mix of colors and designs. While classic black gowns, tailored pants, and trench coats were shown, Ackermann and Gaultier certainly didn't forget the vibrant colors. Structured neon dresses, textured suits, and colorful, fun tops were also displayed; therefore showing that vibrance can also equal elegance.

These looks definitely made a huge impression on us and all the fashion lovers out there. We hope to see more couture pieces from Ackermann in the future, and who knows, maybe another collab between the two French designers.
