The New Face Of British Vogue: Chioma Nnadi

For the past five years, we have been living witnesses to many history-making events: here is one more.

In the wake of Fashion Week, Chioma Nnadi has been named British Vogue’s new head of editorial content, taking over after the promotion of previous editor, Edward Enninful.

If you are not quite sure what ‘head of editorial content’ means, it essentially encompasses the highest position at Vogue other than Anna Wintour herself, according to The Business of Fashion. Officially taking over the role on October 9th, 2023, Chioma Nnadi will be the first black woman to lead British Vogue.

Although she was born and raised in London, Chioma Nnadi has been working overseas in New York as editor of Vogue.com, on the leading-edge of Vogue’s ever important digital presence.

As a long-time journalist, Nnadi has worked with Vogue since 2010 writing some of their most successful cover stories, according to Condé Nast. She also co-hosts The Run-Through with Vogue alongside another Vogue editor, Chloe Malle.

The publication Because of Them We Can reports that Chioma Nnadi’s new role will “focus on digital storytelling” and emphasize diversity and reader engagement. The appointment of Chioma Nnadi appears to be a step forward in diversity for Vogue as a company that has faced a slew of criticism over classism, exclusivity, and “favor[ing] white, Eurocentric notions of beauty” as Edmund Lee writes for The New York Times.

If her past Vogue articles are to be any indication, we can certainly trust Chioma Nnadi to provide a fresh and unique perspective to the company, and, according to her own statement, she is “truly honored and so excited” to lead this new chapter of British Vogue.
