2024 Presidential Election: Meet the Candidates

With primaries well underway, and just over a year until the 2024 election, there are still seventeen people in the running for President of the United States. Three democrats, twelve republicans, and two independents race for the position while trying to win over the American public.

Last week, we covered Florida Governor Ron Desantis, businessman Perry Johnson, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson.

From Independent Cornel West to the recently announced candidate Cenk Uygyr, who are these candidates and what is their goal for the American future?

Cornel West (Independent)

There is something about boldness and fearlessness and being free enough to speak what is on one’s mind that warrants freedom.
— Cornel West

Key Policies:

  • Economic Justice: West plans to abolish both poverty and homelessness through raising the minimum wage, ending tax loopholes, and instating a national jobs program.

  • Environmental Justice: With this policy, West will acknowledge the climate emergency and “move beyond the Green New Deal to a global Green Reconstruction initiative.”

  • Securing the Border: In regard to the border crisis, a Binkley Administration will “build a physical barrier to help secure the southern border, provide resources to borer enforcement, streamline and improve the immigration system, and provide a permanent process to resolve the status of undocumented families.”

I’ll get America booming!
— Doug Burgum

Key Policies:

  • Economy: Doug Burgum believes the economy needs to be the top priority. He will “ get inflation under control, cut taxes, lower gas prices, reduce the cost of living and help people realize their fullest potential.”
