The Champs Are Here: The WNBA Finals Have Ended and the Aces Take Home the Trophy

The Las Vegas Aces are victorious! Winning their second consecutive WNBA Finals Championship. They handled business and defeated New York Liberty in a four game stretch.  Here are some of the highlights from each game:


Game 1:

New York Liberty vs Las Vegas Aces 82-99 (Las Vegas Aces wins)

At the end of the first half the Las Vegas Aces were down 49-46 thanks to Liberty's guard Marine Johannes, scoring 14 pts off the bench. But they kept their eyes on the main thing and came back the second half  dominating. 

A game of career-playoff highs, guards Kelsey Plum and Jackie Young dropped 26 points each leading their team into victory.


Game 2:

New York Liberty vs Las Vegas Aces 76-104 (Las Vegas Aces wins)

A'ja Wilson was a force to be reckoned with in match 2 scoring a game-high of 26 points, 15 rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal. New York down 38-19 were simply outplayed this game by the Aces. 

Jonquel Jones did what she could to give Liberty a fighting chance finishing with a team-high of 22 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks. Her efforts were not enough to beat off the hustling Aces who were playing exceptionally on all levels. 


Game 3:

Las Vegas Aces vs New York Liberty 73-87 (New york liberty wins)

Giving Liberty a new sense of hope Jonquel Jones put Liberty back into the conversation. Jones scored 27 points and WNBA powerhouse Breanna Stewart scored 20 points. Putting the past two games behind them Liberty was up by 3 at the half.

Kelsey Plum scored 29 points and A'ja Wilson with 16 points and 11 rebounds tried to keep the Aces in the game but Liberty was hungry and took home the win. 


Game 4:

Las Vegas Aces vs New York Liberty 70-69 (Las vegas aces wins) 

The Aces shut down any doubts and secured the big win against Liberty securing the Championship title. A'ja Wilson the ,2023 Finals MVP, led her team with 24 points and 16 rebounds. Tied at 60-60 with 5 minutes left in the game both teams traded runs trying to get the first three of the half. 

With 8.8 seconds on the clock, Liberty is down by one, they create a play for Breanna Stewart to try and secure the win but The Aces defense stepped up forcing Courtney Vandersloot to a rushed 3 pointer that unfortunately air-balled.   


Las Vegas Aces Are champions

The Las Vegas Aces were not the picked team to win it all. “A Lot of people picked Liberty in five (games),” said 2022 MVP A'ja Wilson, “We know, we see it. That (stuff) fueled us.” The doubt certainly lit a fire under the already explosive team, giving them reason to fight for their now second WNBA Championship.
