La Galerie Dior: A Fashion Lover's Heaven

Whatever you do—for work or pleasure—do it with passion! Live with passion
— Christian Dior

The luxury French fashion house, Christian Dior, opened the spectacular Galerie Dior in Paris early Spring 2022. With over 2,000 square meters, three stories, and thirteen thematic rooms, it originally embodies Parisian haute couture.

The experience takes you into the life of founder Christian Dior, including his many inspirations, and is a must-do for fashion lovers of all ages.

But, if you don't have the chance to visit the gallery, we've got you covered with a full rundown to satisfy a bit of your curiosity.

The Dior Legacy

To appreciate Galerie Dior, it's important to understand the man behind it all. After moving to Paris at ten years old, Christian Dior started his fashion career in 1935, when he was thirty. Dior briefly served in the military, and then returned to the ‘City of Love’ to open his own fashion house that we all know and love today.

The designer founded the Dior house in 1946 and presented an enchanting post-war silhouette women had never seen before.

One of Christian Dior's many inspirations comes from his childhood in Granville, Normandy, where he grew up. His childhood home inspired the brand's color palette.

My childhood home was rendered in a very soft pink, combined with gray gravel, and these two shades have remained my favorite colors in couture.
— Christian Dior, 1958

The brand's first-ever fashion show was on February 12, 1947.

Inspired by the flowers in his family's garden in Normandy, Dior's first couture collection was called "Corolle" and expressed the beauty of femininity and elegance.

The Galerie Dior has a dedicated room showing designs inspired by the founder's childhood home and his mother's love for flowers.

Handcrafted to Perfection

The galerie is surely a magnificent aesthetic experience, but we can't forget the hard work that goes into all the pieces. The museum features many backstage elements, such as some of Dior's original sketches and even a tailor actively working on a piece as you enter the “white room."

It's important the museum's visitors notice not only the wonderful designs, but the careful attention to detail put into each garment.

Jaw-dropping looks

Finally, we can't forget about the French brand's most iconic looks. From The New Look to the all-black looks, fashion lovers across the world will never forget Dior's legacy and creativity.
