UConn Wins Men's Basketball Championship

In the most anticipated game of the year, the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship, better known as March Madness, The UConn Huskies beat the Purdue Boilermakers. This game was held at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona on Monday, April 8th, 2024. 

The Huskies were chosen to win 54.3 to 45.7 and although the predictions were correct, the Boilermakers put up a fight until the last minute.

Winning by 15 points the Huskies ended up with the 2024 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship title. In the first half, the Huskies were up 36-30.  After halftime, the Huskies were dedicated to keeping their lead and scored an additional 39 points leading them to victory.

TEAM STATS

Going into the championship game, the Boilermakers averaged 18 free throws, 37.7 rebounds, a 48.8 field goal percentage, and 18.4 assists per game. Player Zach Edey averaged 24.4 points per game with 8 free throws. In contrast, the Huskies averaged 14.5 free throws, 35.3 rebounds, a 49.6 field goal percentage, and 18.5 assists per game. Player Tristen Newton averaged 15.2 points per game with 4.3 free throws. 

The Boilermakers had a free throw percentage of 73.3%, a field goal percentage of 44.4%, and a three-point percentage of 14.3.  They had 8 assists, 15 personal fouls, and a total of 27 rebounds, playing behind the Huskies.

The Huskies put up a fight with a free throw percentage of 81.8%, a field goal percentage of 48.4%, and a three-point percentage of 27.3%. With a total of 32 rebounds, 18 assists, and 18 personal fouls.

PLAYER HIGHLIGHTS 

Zach Edey played a major role for the Boilermakers in the first half, even though they were down by 6. He had 5 rebounds, 2 blocks, and scored 16 points. In the second half, Edey crumbled under pressure but still made some impressive plays. Overall he scored 37 points for the Boilermakers. 

In the first half, Donovan Clingan had 2 rebounds, 1 block, and 7 points. In the second half, Clingan had four fouls against him, but that didn’t hinder the Huskies’ win. 


Both of these players showed grit and determination throughout the entire game and their efforts paid off, win or lose. UConn is the first team to win back-to-back NCAA titles since 2006/2007. Their hard work has paid off and they now have 6 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship titles to their name. Congratulations to the Huskies for their hard work and consecutive wins!
