The True Meaning of Success & Failure

Life is a journey that begins from the moment we are born. It is a story of learning, growing, feeling, and connecting with those who crosses our paths; some to guide us, and others to leave us with lessons. We often ask ourselves what the end goal is. How do I reach success? How do I learn from failure so I don’t repeat it?

These conflicting thoughts often came about whenever I pondered endlessly about my future. I would have never expected things to turn out the way they did.

Wether it’s money, a job, or a certain destination we want to visit, there's a level of control that we have within our decisions. On the other hand, there are things that we just can’t control. Life has different pastures and valleys that run their course, and sometimes the best thing you can do is to let go and be okay with it even when it's hard to. Success isn't a place or a thing you can buy. You can put all of your effort into something and still come out empty-handed.

In reality, our mistakes and failures are what shape us into who we are meant to become. Not all of us take the time to be resilient in life’s struggles. These hardships reflect when we compare ourselves to what we view on social media: someone getting married, achieving wealth, or living the thrilling life we crave.

In my opinion, it's hard not to get drawn into the feeling of failure. However, only looking at a truth from one angle can lead to inevitable deception. As Sylvia Plath once said, “Remember, remember, this is now, and now, and now. Live it, feel it, cling to it. I want to become acutely aware of all I’ve taken for granted.” Without living, without learning, and without failure, what would be the purpose for anything in life? We tend to miss so much when imprisoned by our own standard of success, that we struggle to see what’s beyond our boundaries.

During the times of struggles, we learn more about ourselves and grow exponentially. Maybe that is what success really is: finding beauty in the ugly moments, as we persevere and endure pain with sincerity. Cherish these moments you have, because when you look back, you'll realize they had been molding you into who you're meant to be.
