Is Pluribus Worth a Watch?
Source: IMDB
Over the past few weeks, there has been a lot of buzz talk regarding the new television show Pluribus. I’ve heard many things about it, and if I’m being honest, I wasn’t sure if it would be worth my time.
The show follows a character named Carol, as she navigates a world where everyone is forced to be happy because of the effects of a mysterious virus. The twist is that Carol is one of the very few people immune to the virus—meaning she needs to try and figure out how to save humanity by herself.
I decided to watch the first episode and write down all of the thoughts I had. If you're wondering whether Pluribus is worth your time, now I can tell you. There are some minor spoilers for the first episode, but hopefully after reading this, you’ll want to sit down and watch the psychological intrigue that is this show.
23 Thoughts I had while watching the first episode of Pluribus
This countdown is very ominous…
That message is definitely from aliens. I’m thinking it’s not going to be a good message, even though I wish it was.
The countdown jumped from 439 days to 71 days! Oh no.
I’d read Carol’s book just based on her descriptive writing, wow!
29 days on the countdown now?! I’m getting nervous.
What’s going to happen to that woman now that she’s been bitten by the rat? Is she gonna die? Does the rat have the virus? If so, how can the rat have it?
Nevermind, she’s not going to die! She’s alive and kissing people to infect them!
All of these people are alive and functioning yet completely brain-dead, this is creepy.
Now those who are infected are manufacturing the virus!
Three hours!! What’s going to happen?!
It’s kind of funny how much Carol hates her book and the cult-ish following that it has.
How is Helen infected if she didn’t get kissed?
Why isn’t Carol infected? She was right there with Helen!
Okay, so how did they infect all of these people so quickly and without the method of kissing them?
The shot of the city on fire just brought me so much dread for what is going to happen! Although, it was a beautiful shot.
Carol must be so terrified and lonely! I feel so bad for her and the situation she’s in.
Now everyone is awake?! Creepy! But why not Helen?
She can’t get away from them, this is a nightmare! Oh wait, they’ve stopped! Nope, nevermind, they’re back.
Was Carol the target all along? Was the plan that she wouldn’t be able to get infected?
So the message from the beginning is the virus, makes sense. Somewhat.
Good, she’s not completely alone in this! Only 11 others in the world, but it’s better than just her!
This is so good. Very stress-inducing, but good.
Now the timer is counting up, maybe things will get better!
The first episode left me shocked and wanting more. Although I had started this unsure whether I would like Pluribus, my thoughts have changed. Instead of being overwhelmed with the craziness, I found myself wanting to know even more. It is filled with suspense and is beautifully crafted so the audience can’t predict what is coming next. Pluribus is the perfect show to binge over winter break.
