Sports have become more than a display of athletic ability. Recently, sports events have turned into a phenomenon, bringing communities together. Athletes have become icons in pop culture as they build an aura around their strengths, personalities, and style,
translating into collaborations with brands that sell out in seconds. Companies have realized that they don’t need a model for promotion when the athletes themselves are enough to generate demand.
With that, the tunnel walk was born: a gateway from the locker room to the court that has opened up a new field for fashion.

Caitlyn Clark has served as the face of this new craze. She has been dominating the game, becoming influential on and off the court. Drafted number 1 to the Indiana Fever in 2024, Clark was the WNBA Rookie of the Year, continuing to be one of the top-scoring players. Aside from her basketball performance, she has generated over 4 million followers on Instagram, where she posts her latest collabs, including becoming a brand ambassador for Prada. She has raised the bar for athletes to step up their style while they are sitting courtside and is now elevating her fashion during the game as well.
Her latest addition to her tunnel walk strut is her own signature shoes. On Oct. 1, 2026. The Caitlin 1s were released. Clark debuted her collection with Nike featuring bright colors such as “Warning Code” and "Caitlin Blue.” Each sneaker displays her CC logo, representing elite performance and personality. By the afternoon on release day, the initial collection sold out on Nike's website, now being listed secondhand for double the original price.

Indiana University professor Ryan Brewer dug deeper into the effect Caitlin Clark has on audiences. He noted that when the WNBA posted a clip of Clark playing, it averaged “20 million to 45 million viral views across TikTok, X, and Instagram, compared with 3 million to 5 million for a WNBA game without her.” Additionally, basketball game attendance was astronomical when Clark was playing. The average number of fans at a WNBA game in 2024 was 9,807. But for an Indiana home game, they averaged over 16,000 attendees.

Not only is Clark an amazing player, but she is an activist, author, fashion enthusiast, and role model. She is a star on the court but carries that same energy as she exits the arena and enters the world of becoming one of the most famous athletes ever.
Caitlin 1s are making it possible to share “The Caitlin Clark Effect” with everyone who puts on a pair as the bright colors catch people's eyes. In The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy's signature red slippers stood out in the film using Technicolor, representing more than footwear in culture today. From ruby red to Caitlin Blue, the Caitlin 1s are similarly more than a shoe; They are a symbol of Clark's power as her influence reaches from the basketball court into fashion and consumer culture.
