At Milan Fashion Week, Roberto Cavalli responded to and reimagined what we know as vintage fashion. Earlier Cavalli collections were centered around unconventional punk styles and silhouettes that have recently been trending on the vintage resale market.
Under creative director Fausto Puglisi, the Spring/Summer 2027 collection is a homage to Cavalli’s heritage and original love for maximalism.

The collection uses bright, vibrant colors that contrast with the neutrals of animal print, giving the line a timeless vintage vibe. Puglisi reimagined the brand using these layered prints and tightly fitted silhouettes, overlapping different eras from Roberto Cavalli’s older collections. Puglisi did not shy away from the mixture of different materials. Several garments use multiple textiles such as embellished denim, velvet, lace, animal patterns, and even embroidered lace, which are seen throughout the collection.
This Roberto Cavalli collection is one example of a much larger trend across the fashion industry: maximalism. Gathering from archives, vintage markets, and industry trends, it feels right that Puglisi embraces the sensuality and expressive house codes that define Cavalli’s heritage. Individuality, self expression, and playfulness are returning to fashion design, and Cavalli’s S/S ‘27 collection is just the start.

To avoid looking too retro, Puglisi also references the Los Angeles nightlife and celebrity culture to remain relevant in today's generation. Cardi B was in attendance at the show, where she performed in a stunning animal print look, which matches the feeling of extravagance and high energy, and the glitz and glamour of LA celebrity lifestyles. Puglisi’s collection is a taste of confidence for all.
Moreover, we can see these trends resurfacing and reinventing themselves throughout the fashion landscape. Other brands, such as Miu Miu and Conner Ives have been upcycling and designing new looks using deadstock, vintage clothing, and fabric remains to emphasize the importance of sustainability and circular fashion.

Puglisi’s collection is a bold statement that shows how loud luxury is still luxury. The collection allows for reconsideration as to what “sophisticated” really means, given the loud and playful nature of the collection. In the face of color, pattern, and texture, Puglisi made one thing clear: Fashion can be sensible and sophisticated while still being excessive and colorful, all while remaining current.
