A Sequel to Our Favorite Fashion Film
As fashion students in New York City, there is one movie that has almost become a prerequisite for us: The Devil Wears Prada. It is an iconic movie that has the ability to instill in people dreams of working in fashion and calling the city their home.
Up until last year, us fashion students were under the impression that there wouldn’t be another movie in this universe. Many of the actors in the original film have expressed their thoughts that a sequel would never work.
“Now, everything’s gone so digital, and that movie centered around the concept of producing a physical thing,” Anne Hathaway said, the actor who plays Andy.
It came as a lovely surprise when it was announced that there would be a sequel to this cult classic that was released in 2006.
When The Devil Wears Prada was first introduced to the world, people seemed to love it. It grossed $326 million worldwide at the box office. The film centers around Andy Sachs, who is a recent college graduate and has landed a job working at a prestigious magazine in the fashion industry. Her job is to be the assistant of the editor of the magazine, Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep). It ends up being a very strenuous task, and is taxing on both Andy’s professional and personal life, which she has to learn to manage.

This highly anticipated sequel is releasing in theatres on May 1st—just three days before the 2026 Met Gala. It features Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt as returning actors. The original writer and director are also back for more fun.
The decline of print media is something that these characters have to learn to work with. Miranda is still the editor of Runway Magazine, and she is facing some struggles because of this new digital age. Emily, one of Miranda’s old assistants, is now working at a luxury group that has the advertising money that Miranda needs to help the success of her magazine. With Andy back at Runway as the features editor, the three have to learn to work together again, while simultaneously fighting to keep their companies alive.
For months, the only information we had about the film was a short teaser trailer, in which Miranda and Andy are both working at the magazine. It left a lot of fans curious as to whether or not their dynamic will be different in this new movie. A full trailer was finally released in early February, but these questions still haven’t been answered. Luckily, we don’t have to wait much longer. There are only a few months until we get another iconic fashion film to adore. So mark your calendars, grab your favorite fashion friends, and make plans to go to the theatre on the first Friday of May!
