How to Benefit from the Blizzard

This past week was nothing but aligned with the current trends...the worst blizzard New York City has seen since 2016. A blizzard is an interesting way to see the city in a new light. It’s still, peaceful, serene. A blizzard is a mask for the city that we don’t see very often. How can we take advantage of our days in our masked city?

You may be alone in your apartment, but you will not be alone in Central Park. Central Park was the hottest club in New York City, nearly having to push our way onto the small, icy sidewalk, and getting stuck in a snowball fight. As someone that is from the suburbs where I was surrounded by yard space, I didn’t realize seeing rows of snowmen in Central Park would make me feel so comforted.

City kids deserve snow rights too!!! All of the hills were occupied with people sledding on various items—some even brought their own snowboards and skis to the park. There was a woman going viral on all social media platforms (my mom sent me a facebook reel) of her snow mannequin. It is an absolute piece of art.

There is no such thing as an icy sidewalk in Mamdani’s New York City. The city is paying emergency shovelers $30 an hour to clear the sidewalks and crosswalks. Incredible not only for the citizens of the city, but for the people needing a new gig while their work was called off from the storm.

Alas, if you are a person that doesn’t want to be shoulder to shoulder in a park, or be out shoveling the streets, this is your time to shine as a homebody. Get a sandwich from the deli, pick up your craft of choice, and put on a show you’ve been wanting to watch.

And really, what's the weather without a political debate. Former New York City mayor, Eric Adams made a lighthearted tweet about said event: this is a time to “make more future New Yorkers.” So if the first three options don’t fit your schedule, the former mayor has a different approach to recommending activities for being snowed in.
