Is a Birkin an Apology? — The Lexington Line

Rob Rausch has the girls in a chokehold once again. Former Love Island star, Rob Rausch, is the most recent winner of The Traitors season four.

A game show streamed on Peacock, The Traitors is a show where famous people try to deceive one another in a mysterious Scotland castle. Rob was not the contestant to win Love Island season six, but we kept him in the loop due to his flirtatious personality. He went jumped from one girl to another, staying the hottest topic on the island. While in the The Traitors castle, he won over the other contestants' hearts by being quiet, staying low, and showing true skill during the challenges.

A certain one person took a close attachment to our Rob: a woman from Love Island season five Maura Higgins. Maura seemed to place her everything into Rob, and he ran with it. She let him know that she had her full blind faith in Rob that he wasn’t a traitor (spoiler alert: he was) and would go as far as to convince her alliances that he was safe.

Come the finale, he betrayed her. As they were the last two remaining contestants, she thought they were going to win the show together. If they were to both be faithful's, they would have split 200 thousand dollars. If there was one traitor remaining, they would take all the money themselves. Maura was completely convinced she was going home with the prize of a lifetime, when Rob revealed he was a traitor.

Shock, horror, and disgust was painted all over her face.

During their press tour after the fact, Rob had promised Maura a Birkin as an apology. Not only is this one of the most exclusive bags from Hermes, but also the most expensive and desired. He presented the Burgundy Birkin 30 with gold hardware to Maura on “Watch What Happens Live” with Andy Cohen. Maura strutted out of the show wearing a graphic with the written words “I’m Dumb?” while sporting her new bag.

The audiences opinion of Maura Higgins remains in rough waters.

If Rob were to be a woman in this situation, many might have stoned them and fought for Maura when she didn’t win. People call Maura dumb for putting her blind trust into a man that she barely knew.

Others argue that the Birkin was worth it in the long run. Maura seems to be all happy about the “free Birkin,” as would any person. Watching The Traitors, it’s up for you to decide if she’s “dumb” or not.
