Is a Birkin an Apology?
Rob Rausch has the girls in a chokehold once again. Former Love Island star, Rob Rausch, is the most recent winner of The Traitors season four.
A game show streamed on Peacock, The Traitors is a show where famous people try to deceive one another in a mysterious Scotland castle. Rob was not the winner of Love Island season six, but we kept him in the loop because of his flirtatious personality. He went and jumped from one girl to another, making him the hottest topic on the island.
While in the Traitors' castle, he won over the other contestants' hearts by being quiet, staying low, and showing true skill during the challenges.
A certain person took a close attachment to our Rob: a woman from Love Island season five, Maura Higgins. Maura seemed to place her heart into Rob, and he ran with it. She let him know that she had her full blind faith in Rob that he wasn’t a traitor (spoiler alert: he was) and would go as far as to convince her alliances that he was safe.
Come the finale, he betrayed her. As they were the last two contestants, she thought they would win the show together. If they were to both be “faithfuls”, they would have split 200 thousand dollars. If one traitor remained, they would take all the money themselves. Maura was completely convinced she was going home with the prize of a lifetime when Rob revealed he was a traitor.
Shock, horror, and disgust were painted all over her face.
During their post-tour press conference, Rob had promised Maura a Birkin as an apology. Not only is this one of the most exclusive bags from Hermes, but also the most expensive and desired. He presented the Burgundy Birkin 30 with gold hardware to Maura on “Watch What Happens Live” with Andy Cohen. Maura strutted out of the show wearing a graphic with the written words “I’m Dumb?” while sporting her new bag.
The audience’s opinion of Maura Higgins remains in rough waters.
If Rob were a woman in this situation, many might have stoned them and fought for Maura when she didn’t win. People call Maura dumb for putting her blind trust in a man that she barely knew.
Others argue that the Birkin was worth it in the long run. Maura seems to be very happy about the “free Birkin,” as anyone would be. Watching The Traitors, it’s up to you to decide if she’s “dumb” or not.
