My Top 5 Netflix Mystery Movies
As someone who consumes a lot of movies and TV shows, it would make sense that I have found the genre that I keep going back to: mystery. I love the intricate storylines, minute details, and captivating plot twists that never fail to engage the viewer. I would say that since I have watched my fair share of media in this genre, naturally, I have some opinions on which pieces are the best.
A streaming platform that many college students have, including myself, is Netflix. So, here are my top five mystery movies and limited series on Netflix that you can put on your list for your next movie night.

7 Women and a murder
This Italian movie, a remake of the 2002 French film 8 Women, combines mystery and suspense with a bit of lighthearted comedy. It centers around a family of eight, seven women, and the family patriarch. When the patriarch is found murdered, the women have to figure out who committed the act. Each of them seems to have a motive to want to kill, which adds a level of complexity to finding the solution. A fierce snowstorm traps them in the family mansion—don’t forget with a murderer—and they all have to find a way to piece this puzzle together.
Agatha christie’s seven dials

This three-episode limited series is based on Agatha Christie’s 1929 novel The Seven Dials Mystery, and features stars such as Martin Freeman and Helena Bonham Carter. Set in the 1920s, a harmless prank put into effect during a wealthy family’s party results in a murder. The daughter of the family is adamant to find out who killed her friend, and she has some welcome help from her mother and the Detective Superintendent. But little does she know that her life is about to be changed forever, all because of her determination to solve the mystery.
the residence

Another perfectly crafted Netflix limited series is The Residence. It takes place in the White House, when, during a state dinner, a murder occurs. Eclectic and bird-loving detective Cordelia Cupp (Uzo Aduba) is called in to solve this crime. Her methods are questioned, and throughout the eight episodes, viewers are left wondering if she really can piece this puzzle together. Shonda Rhimes, creator of Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, wrote and produced this series, which automatically makes the quality and creation of this show top-notch. It’ll be hard not to binge it, and I say that from experience.
wake up dead man: a knives out mystery

The third installment in the Knives Out franchise was highly anticipated by many, including myself. Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is back again to try to solve another clouded mystery, this time in a quiet church in upstate New York. The community that attends this church is very close, and their relationships are put to the test when secrets start to emerge. Rian Johnson’s script and direction are high-quality, and the scenery is hauntingly beautiful. And with a cast including Josh Brolin, Glenn Close, Josh O’Connor, and Andrew Scott, the acting is off the charts.
The woman in cabin 10

This mystery movie leans more into being a thriller, filled with suspense, drama, and dark shadows. Keira Knightley plays a journalist, Laura Blacklock, who is working on an assignment on a luxury yacht. She unexpectedly sees a passenger go overboard, but the other guests on the yacht don’t seem to believe her when she tries to tell them. It’s up to her to uncover what actually happened and unravel the extensive secrets that exist on a boat filled with millionaires. But, meddling with these ruthless rich people might not be the best idea, and Blacklock ends up putting her life at risk.
