Webtoon: Everything is Fine

Have you ever thought of what life would be like if we lived in a government-controlled society where everything is regulated, there are no children, and everyone wears a giant cat head? If you answered no, you are a sane human being just like the rest of us. If you also think this sounds completely made up and terrifying, you’re in luck, because it is.

Webtoon is a free service that allows creators such as Mike Birchall and others to share their art with the world. Stories can range from modern adaptations of Greek mythology to making deals with the devil to a compelling story about the search for the perfect chef and so much more. They offer free access to most stories and allow previews of upcoming chapters (just in case you become obsessed and need to binge) with the use of their in-app currency coins. There are even daily reading challenges to help you earn coins so that you don’t necessarily have to spend actual money to receive exclusive content.

There is also a feature where creators can add music to a chapter to enhance the reader’s experience. Webtoon is a great way to read different types of stories in all kinds of styles. Also, did I mention it was free?

Everything is Fine, a graphic novel created by Mike Birchall and featured on Webtoon is a psychological horror that is sure to induce a scare. This Webtoon takes place in a dystopian universe where everyone wears a huge cat head (which is never explained), is heavily monitored and censored, and there are no children around. The story follows Maggie, a 1950s-style housewife, and her law-abiding husband Sam. Maggie and Sam are shown to be living a wonderful life, but this is only true if your definition entails waking up before your clock turns from 2:59 a.m. to 2:60 a.m., ignoring that the family dog has been dead for some time now, and poisoning your garbage so the homeless cannot survive on eating it. The story only gets stranger when Maggie begins to find it harder and harder to pretend that living in this world is okay. So, she decides to rebel against it with her husband by her side. We’re introduced to the invasive Machiavellian neighbors, scarily friendly police officers, fire trucks that spray literal fires, and tons of aluminum foil. This is a story that will have your mouth agape after each chapter.

Everything is Fine is such a compelling, psychological thriller-horror story and currently only has 30 chapters. The graphic novel has already accumulated a strong fanbase and has grown its social media presence by displaying animated clips of certain scenes on Webtoon’s Youtube channel. Go back to the basics this spooky season and snuggle up in your pumpkin-themed pajamas, pull out your electronic device, and read about some killer cat people...literally.
