'Face It Alone': Queen Puts Out Unreleased Single With Freddie Mercury

Our worlds were certainly rocked after Queen put out an unreleased single with the late Freddie Mercury on October 13th, 2022.

The iconic rock band has been sharing its music with the world since 1970. The UK band has become a household name for their hits such as “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Somebody To Love,” “Another One Bites the Dust,” and many more.

After the lead vocalist Freddie Mercury passed away from HIV on November 24th, 1991, Queen released their 15th and final studio album, Made in Heaven, in 1995. Since then, John Deacon, the bass guitarist, retired in 1997 but Brian May (guitarist) and Roger Taylor (drummer) continue the band’s legacy.

In 2011, Queen + welcomed Adam Lambert as their new lead vocalist and continue to tour to this day. This past June, they opened up The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Party for the late Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday.

Though we love that Lambert continues to perform the classics alongside May and Taylor, we can’t contain our excitement surrounding Queen’s unreleased single with Mercury, “Face It Alone.

“Face It Alone”

Before the song’s release on the 13th, QR codes were popping up all over major cities from New York to Tokyo. This left fans in suspense as an image of Freddie Mercury was the face of this advertisement. On October 7th, Queen took to Twitter with the official release date of “Face It Alone.”

This 4 minute and 7 second tune is just what we needed this autumn. There is a melancholy feel to the song as the lyrics are very somber in combination with softer sounds from both the drums and guitar.

“Face It Alone” is all about pulling yourself out of a dark place. At the end of the day, you are the only one that can save yourself, and Queen shares that in this tune. Though the lyrics are on the sorrowful side, the message of “Face It Alone” is quite inspiring.

When something so near and dear to life

Explodes inside you, feel your soul is set on fire

When something so deep and so far and wide

Falls down beside your cries can be heard

So loud and clear

The song also features a guitar solo from Brian May, which we can’t get enough of. May is very well-known for his solos, most notably the one in “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

You can stream “Face It Alone” on both Apple Music and Spotify right now. Trust us, you won’t regret it.
