Free and Affordable Events in NYC To Mark on Your Calendar’s: Holiday Edition

Finding affordable things to do in New York City is hard, so why not have someone do it for you? Once the weather starts to cool down, many free outdoor events sadly come to an end. Here is a list of some current and upcoming events that are affordable and worth your while!

 

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has been the most iconic nationwide parade since 1924. This event will be televised, but if you are in the city, it is definitely worth seeing in person. The parade will start at 9 AM on November 24th and end at 12 PM. The parades route will begin on 77 Street and Central Park West and end at Macy's Herald Square at 34th Street & 7th Avenue. New balloons this year will include a minion from Minions, a new Sinclair’s Dino, and a new Greg Heffley from Diary of the Wimpy Kid. If you are considering going, make sure to get there early for a good spot, and don’t forget to wear warm clothes. 


Bryant Park Winter Village

Every New Yorker waits (not so patiently) for Bryant Park’s Winter Village to come back for the season. This year’s event opened on Friday, October 28th, and will come to an end on Sunday, March 5th, 2023. Bryant Park offers ice skating and holiday shopping, perfect for the ideal holiday evening. The ice skating rink will be open daily from 8 AM to 10 PM and is free admission for people who bring their own skates. If you don’t own your own ice skates the cost varies from $15 to $50. The holiday shops are open Monday through Friday from 11 AM to 8 PM and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 AM to 8 PM. Whether you are looking to take a walk through the Winter Village, or get holiday shopping done– be sure to check out this winter wonderland before it’s too late!


200 TRUNKS, 200 VISIONARIES: THE EXHIBITION – Louis Vuitton Exhibition

Louis Vuitton is one of the most well-known French luxury brands. They currently have an exhibition, 200 Trunks, 200 Visionaries, located where Barneys once stood at 660 Madison Avenue by 61st Street. It will be going on through the holiday season until December 31st, 2022, and is completely free. It is open daily from 10 AM to 8 PM. People are raving about how extraordinary this exhibition is so if you have time, definitely check out this once-in-a-lifetime event. 


Christmas Tree Lighting

New York is known to have one of the biggest Christmas trees in the world during the holiday season. Lucky for you, on November 30th at 7 PM, this year’s Christmas tree lighting will be held at Rockefeller Center. After the lighting, the tree will be lit and opened to the public from 6 AM to 12 AM. If you’re looking to get in the Christmas spirit, mark this historical event on your calendar. Be sure to get there early to get a good view!
