Trendy in Tech': How to Style Tech-Wear Accessories

Tech-wear is starting to become a fashion favorite all over TikTok and Pinterest. You may or may not be asking yourself—what exactly is tech-wear? Tech-wear is anything technology or athleisure related such as wired/wireless headphones, video cameras, athletic tops, parachute pants, and athletic shoes.

If you’re curious about how to style and where to get some of these pieces, you have come to the right place.

Wired and wireless headphones are a must-have item to have in your closet, not just as an accessory of course, but for its actual purpose. Wearing them as an accessory is just a fun bonus—duh. You can style them the basic way, on top of your head (almost like earmuffs) for all year round. You can also wear them around your neck, serving as a necklace. The way you choose to style these headphones also depends on the type you get.

For example, if you choose to purchase the Apple Air Pods Max, you can wear them with just about anything, even a simple tube top. Other headphones that are wired like the Sony ZX Series ones definitely go better with a dressed-down look, and a cute updo to show off the fact that you are still into wired headphones—like many of us are.

VIDEO CAMERAS

Video cameras are probably not what comes to mind when you think of an accessory, but they can be when properly styled with an outfit—even if it’s just for pictures. There is no specific way to go about styling your look around a video camera, but I would definitely suggest purchasing one with a strap so that you can use it as a crossbody bag of sorts.

Video cameras can be quite expensive, so consider just purchasing a used one from a pawn shop or a thrift store. If you’d rather invest in a new one, you can get them anywhere from Amazon for as low as $60, and other tech retailers like Best Buy.

PARACHUTE PANTS

Parachute pants are not an accessory—but it wouldn't be a tech-wear article without mentioning them. Many people confuse them for cargos, but parachute pants are much baggier and are usually made out of nylon. These are everywhere right now, so finding a pair shouldn't be hard. You can get a pair at the thrift store or on secondhand shopping apps like Depop and retailers like Urban Outfitters and ASOS.

Like any piece of clothing, you should style these pants however you feel comfortable, but I would suggest going for a more form-fitting top, with whatever shoes you see fit. This could be a pair of pointed-toe heels or a super comfy pair of Adidas trainers.

ATHLETIc SHOES

Athletic, or better known as, Dad sneakers have been a hot commodity, so if you have not already scooped yourself up a pair or two, you might want to reconsider. Even high fashion brands like Balenciaga and Prada have their own version of a Dad shoe for those who are more into luxury brands. I’m sure everyone knows how to rock a pair of sneakers, but these athletic shoes might be a bit harder for some to get into, so I would suggest starting with an easy, matching sweatsuit or tracksuit and go from there.

If you like the sneakers enough, you’ll soon find yourself wearing them all the time, with everything. You can find some at the thrift store if you really want a vintage pair, but if you are more comfortable buying a fresh pair, brands like Nike, New Balance, Salomon, Adidas, and Asics have some.

The key thing to take away from this is to make whatever your styling, make it your own! If you like any of the tech-wear pieces mentioned and you want to try styling them—do it. You might even already own some of these pieces, but if you want to go out and buy them, I definitely recommend diving into the trend.
