"Rockin' With Rosalía": Rosalía Get's Iconic for Her GQ Cover Shoot

GQ magazine is always providing us with iconic shoots and covers with every issue they produce. They gave us crazy yet overwhelmingly awesome with Robert Pattinson’s March cover that quite literally stole all of our hearts. Our editorial director Kally Compton even dedicated a whole article to the shoot, respectively.

They took things to the next level with their May issue, which features Spanish singer Rosalía in all of her cyber-Y2K glory. The singer is known for her many collaborations with other artists such as Bad Bunny, Travis Scott, J. Balvin, The Weeknd, and Billie Eilish.

After the release of her latest upbeat album Motomami in March, Rosalía proved she can continue to make waves in the music industry, and GQ decided to get a first-hand look into how the singer created the new album, as well as how she grew up in Catalonia, Spain. “How Rosalía Became the Queen of the Global Nightclub” goes into great detail on how Rosalía reinvented flamenco- a Spain-based art form consisting of music and dance for the digital age.

Similar to Robert Pattinson’s cover, Rosalía’s GQ cover has fashion lovers and fans of the artist obsessing over every detail. Uncoincidentally, some of the same genius went into the photography and creative direction for Rosalía’s shoot. All the photos were shot by Jack Bridgland, and have the same neo-noir, cyber-esque vibe as Rob’s. In the words of Paris Hilton, we are sliving for it.

THE LOOKS

The looks were done by stylist Oliver Volquardsen, who has styled other shoots for magazines like Vogue & for brands such as GCDS. Volquardsen took a different approach for each look while making sure Rosalía was still dripped down in all the Y2K “Motomami” goodness. Volquardsen pulled pieces from brands like Prada, Louis Vuitton, and the Spanish store Costume - The Stylist Room.

The set design was kept simple, which was a good idea to complement the not-so-subtle looks. While they were not super crazy, the creative direction of the entire shoot gave the photos a bold touch that will definitely have fans of the artist, as well as the stylist and photographer, talking for a steaming hot minute.

This iconic GQ cover and issue will have Rosalía fans everywhere gushing for more until her next shoot, which will probably be just as imaginative and inspired as this one. She is going to continue to break boundaries and maintain a prominent role as a pioneer in the music industry, and we can not wait to see what else Rosalía accomplishes.
