Do's & Don'ts on The Red Carpet: 2022 Grammy's Edition

The beloved Grammy Awards have come and gone—but the red carpet looks will live on forever.

We have all seen and admired the green Versace dress that Jennifer Lopez gracefully wore to the 42nd Grammy Awards back in 2000. Lopez paved the way for future iconic Grammy looks and successfully executed how to slay on the red carpet. So without further ado, let’s run through some of the dos- and don’ts from the 2022 Grammys red carpet.

THE DO’s

MEGAN THEE STALLION IN ROBERTO CAVALLI

SOURCE: PAPER MAGAZINE

Megan Thee Stallion’s look was wildly good—pun intended. From the Roberto Cavalli dress to her glamorous makeup and the stunning gold accessories, her entire look was definitely a 10/10. She proves that animal print on the red carpet can totally be a hit when executed correctly.

DUA Lipa In Versace gown and Bvlgari High Jewelry

SOURCE: VOGUE

Dua Lipa wore an iconic black Versace dress from the brand’s A/W’92 collection and absolutely killed the look. A sleek-straight hairdo is always the right answer, and Lipa most definitely understood the assignment.

During the show, Megan Thee Stallion wore the same Versace dress in reference to the Whitney and Mariah Grammys moment in 1998— this look part two also gets a 10/10 for Megan Thee Stallion and Dua Lipa. As always, hats off to Donatella Versace.

DONATELLA VERSACE IN VERSACE

SOURCE: VOGUE

Speaking of the queen of Versace, Donatella’s look was so shockingly good that it made some of our jaws drop—myself included. It is not the most extravagant of looks, but the silhouette of the dress and the matching glittery, chartreuse boots were just *chef’s kiss*.

Obviously, this look gets a 10/10, and is definitely a do on the red carpet hot or not list.

Justin Bieber in Balenciaga and Hailey Bieber in Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello

SOURCE: VOGUE

Come on you know you’re a sucker for a baggy blazer—and Justin Bieber is clearly on the same page. His Balenciaga look was simple, yet super stylish, even displaying some S/S’22 trends like bright pink.

Hailey Bieber’s look was also simple, but so dreamy. She was a vision in white, if you will. Even though Justin did not take home any Grammys on Sunday night, he and his wife still pulled through with the looks.

It’s a 9/10 for both of the outfits.

Lenny Kravitz

SOURCE: VOGUE

Lenny Kravitz, aka the frontman for rockstar fashion, showed us how to strut on the red carpet with some heeled knee-high boots, and a draped silver chainmail top. Of course, he had to throw on a pair of signature tight leather pants to complete that rockstar vibe—and we loved it.

This look was without a doubt a 10/10.

BILLIE EILISH IN RICK OWENS

SOURCE: PAPER MAGAZINE

Queen Billie has dressed in black once again. She graced the carpet in a gorgeous Rick Owens dress, and a flattering updo with sunglasses—of course. Sadly Billie did not take home any Grammys, but her performance of “Happier Than Ever” was satisfactory, to say the least.

Her look gets a 9/10, and definitely classifies as a do.

TIARA THOMAS IN VERA WANG HAUTE

SOURCE: VOGUE

Black is never a wrong answer when it comes to any look—and Grammy looks are no exception.

Tiara Thomas took the color black to a whole new level with an absolutely ravishing Vera Wang Haute ruched tulle dress, skirt, and bra combo, and a black tailored jacket overtop.

Her Bantu knots were super cute, bringing this look to a 10/10.

DOJA CAT IN ATELIER VERSACE & COPERNI

Source: paper Magazine

Doja Cat was the star of the 2022 Grammys red carpet with her custom minty-blue Atelier Versace corset and crystal-embellished dress, accessorized with a matching Coperni blown glass bag and JBL speaker.

Her look was probably one of the most talked-about looks of the night and had some of our jaws dropping all the way to her winning her first Grammy.

This look was an 11/10—without a doubt.

LIL NAS X in Balmain

SOURCE: PAPER Magazine

Most of us already know what to expect from Lil Nas X when it comes to red-carpet looks, and this year’s Grammy Awards were no different. His Balmain look was inspired by a similar dress from the brand’s A/W 2012 collection.

Just like his performance, his red-carpet look was a hit, a definite 10/10.

Saweetie in Valentino

SOURCE: PAPER MAGAZINE

Saweetie was pretty in pink for the Grammys, and we can’t say we hate it. The Valentino dress she wore looked super flattering on her, and the gloves were the perfect touch.

Even though she did not take home the Grammy for best new artist, she definitely could have won for best dressed.

Her look gets a 9/10.

OLIVIA RODRIGO IN VIVIENNE WESTWOOD

SOURCE: POPSUGAR UK

If you have not already heard, Olivia Rodrigo won big at the Grammys on Sunday, taking home not one, not two, but three Grammys! So of course it made sense for her to look ready for the wins. Her black Vivienne Westwood crystal-embellished corset dress was to die for, it was brutally fashionable—if you will.

This look is an absolute 10/10!

KALI UCHIS IN DOLCE & GABBANA

SOURCE: VOGUE

Kali Uchis stunned in a gorgeous light brown corseted Dolce & Gabbana dress, that was seriously giving early 2000’s popstar vibes in all the best ways.

From the brown-lined lip to the side bang updo, this look was one of my absolute favorites, and easily an 11/10.

THE DON’TS

BILLY PORTER IN VALENTINO

SOURCE: PAPER MAGAZINE

The Valentino getup Mr.Porter wore was giving—but something was missing. We were expecting more of a dramatic and glamorous look from the fashion icon, but sometimes subtly is the answer.

In this case, maybe it could have used a bit more flair, so it was a 6/10.

CARRIE UNDERWOOD IN DOLCE & GABBANA

SOURCE: VOGUE

While I love this Dolce & Gabbana dress, and the makeup and hair, I feel like it was a bit too costume-like, giving very much Cinderella.

But still, Carrie Underwood looked as stunning as ever, and this look still deserves at least a 7/10.

AVRIL LAVIGNE in moi moi Paris

SOURCE: VOGUE

Avril Lavigne’s custom Moi Moi Paris dress was just a little too meh for us. Her hair and makeup looked amazing, but the whole outfit, including the shoes, could have been better.

Overall, this look gets a 6/10.

MICKEY GUYTON IN ASHISH

SOURCE: PAper Magazine

This look Mickey Guyton wore was just giving a bit too much for the Grammys. Not going to critique it too harshly, but it definitely serves more of a 20’s flapper party look than a red-carpet look.

This dress gets a 4/10.

The kid laroi in Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello

While it is a shame The Kid Laroi did not take home the Grammy for Best New Artist, his look on the red carpet was just as disappointing.

You can never go wrong with black on black, but if you’re nominated for a big award, you should try to dress the part!

This look gets a 4/10 from us.

Well, folks, those are the do’s and the don’ts for the 2022 Grammy awards. Some were a lot more favorable than others, but each look was unique in its own way.
