Adidas Sambas: A New Take on the Classic Shoe

Adidas Sambas are back! They are in style once again and available for you to wear all year-round, for any situation. Seen recently on celebrities including Bella Hadid, Kaia Gerber, Zoë Kravitz, and Kendall Jenner, the classic shoe is being styled in a new light.

Sambas date back to the 1950s. Soccer (football) players wore them, and they have become classics in terms of cultural fashion over time. Let's learn more about this remarkable shoe, shall we?

History

It all began with the founder, Adi Dassler. He designed the first Samba to provide traction on icy surfaces. Below are the very first pair of Sambas to ever be released, dating back to the 1950s.

The Brazil World Cup was taking place at the time, and Adidas needed to figure out its next move to highlight its newest shoe. Even though the weather in Brazil was not ideal for the sneaker, they decided to redesign it and rename it Samba after the famous Brazilian dance. It inspired the Brazilian soccer team to wear them during games, and the rest is history.

When it comes to reintroducing the infamous look, we all know why Sambas made a comeback. The vintage sleek look these shoes have, has become very popular amongst new generations. Creator Ruby Lyn tells Refinery 29 “I found my first pair of Sambas at a thrift store and have been obsessed ever since.” Everyone loves a good thrift find, so make sure to keep an eye out for a pair on your next thrifting spree. The sneakers come in a variety of colors, ranging from classic black and white to vibrant green and red, so there is an option for everyone!

Adidas Releases New Sambas

Since these shoes have been getting a lot of love, Adidas decided to release a new collection of Sambas on September 15th, only this time as golf shoes and in pale colors. If you believe you must play golf in order to wear these shoes, you are mistaken. The colors include Clear Pink, Halo Blue, Crystal White, and Pulse Yellow. With this collection, you can sport new looks all season long. We recommend pairing the new Samba collection with a skirt or a classic pair of denim jeans.
