2024 Presidential Election: Meet the Candidates

With primaries well underway, and just over a year until the 2024 election, there are still seventeen people in the running for President of the United States. Three democrats, thirteen republicans, and one independent race for the position while trying to win over the American public.

In the last installment of this series, we covered President Joe Biden, Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, Governor Nikki Haley, and Senator Tim Scott. Today, we visit the key policies of four more Presidential candidates.

From 45th President Donald Trump to humanitarian Marianne Williamson, who are these candidates and what is their goal for the American future?

Donald Trump (Republican)

I ran for President because I knew there were towering new summits for America just waiting to be scaled. I knew the potential for our nation was boundless as long as we put America first.
— Donald J. Trump

Key Policies:

  • Economic Prosperity for All: What was once a priority during his former Presidency, holds as one of Trump’s top policies this election cycle. President Trump hopes to “tackle inflation, bring back our supply chains, end our dependence on China, and eliminate the socialist Green New Deal.”

  • Secure America’s Borders: During his Presidency, Donald Trump ended the catch-and-release program, dismantled human trafficking schemes, and started the creation of a southern border wall across the United States.

  • Restore Public Safety: If elected, Donald Trump will “deliver record funding to hire and retrain police officers, put violent offenders and career criminals behind bars, and surge federal prosecutors and the National Guard into high-crime communities.”

  • Dismantle the Deep State: Starting in his former Presidency, Trump made it his mission to “drain the swamp.” In 2024, he hopes to “end the weaponization of the justice system, the FBI, and the DOJ. [He] will conduct a top-to-bottom overhaul of the federal bureaucracies to clean out the rot and corruption of Washington D.C.”

Marianne Williamson (Democrat)

In every community, there is work to be done. In every nation, there are wounds to heal. In every heart, there is the power to do it.
— Marianne Williamson

Key Policies:

  • Health: If elected, Williamson plans to create a basis of universal healthcare within the States, put an end to Big Pharma’s price gouging, address the rural health crisis, and expand the role the FDA plays in keeping toxins out of our food supply.

  • Children: Marianne Williamson plans to provide proper prenatal and healthcare for women, maternal and paternal leave, anti-trauma services for at-risk youth, substance abuse treatment, and mental health services for children.

  • Economy: To close the income gap and improve the economy, the Williamson Administration will focus on the following: enacting fair taxes on the wealthy, ending prescription drug price gouging, increasing the federal minimum wage, making higher education affordable, eliminating interest on student loan dept, supporting unions, and investing in the United States’ infrastructure.

Mike Pence (Republican)

I’m a Christian, a conservative, and a Republican, in that order.
— Mike Pence

Key Policies:

  • End Inflation: Former Vice President Mike Pence hopes to “repeal President Biden’s unfair student loan forgiveness scheme, require federal agencies to eliminate wasteful improper payments from federal programs, eliminate the Environmental Protection Agency, and eliminate tax credits for people who purchase electric vehicles.”

  • Energy Expansion: If elected, the Pence Administration plans to allow “open drilling on federal land, removing restrictions on natural gas production, increase the refining capacity, and replenish the strategic petroleum reserve.”

  • Expanding Federalism: This policy runs under the following structure: “eliminate the Department of Education, provide states with federal healthcare funds, grant millions of acres of federal land back to the states, return control of Highway Trust Fund spending to states, and enact rules and legislation to limit the federal use of eminent domain.”

  • Putting American’s Families and Values First: As President, Pence will, “reduce financial burdens for America's families, including adoption costs; protect America's children, especially the unborn; end the war on traditional family values; and advance universal school choice.”

Chris Christie (Republican)

We pay a price when special interests win out over the collective national interest.
— Chris Christie

Key Policies:

While former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s website does not include any information on specific policies, this is how he responded to various core issues:

  • Abortion: “What I stand for, is what conservatives have been arguing for 50 years, which is that Roe [v. Wade] was wrong, there’s no federal constitutional right to an abortion and that the states should decide.” Christie continues, “ I absolutely believe that each state should make their decision on this.”

  • Economy: Christie states that he “cut taxes in New Jersey and cut debt in New Jersey,” which would be his plan in the Presidency as well.

  • Crime: "So what a President Christie would do is appoint an attorney general who would instruct each of the 93 U.S. attorneys that they are to take over the prosecution of violent crime in every one of those cities that are failing to do so."
