Chic in Carolina: Carolina Herrera's Fall 2023 Collection

Coveted American fashion house Carolina Herrera debuted its fall 2023 collection at NYFW on February 13th. The collection was classy, chic, and sophisticated yet vibrant and lively.

American designer Wes Gordon took the reins of the house back in 2018. Before taking over, he worked below Herrera herself. Since then, he has kept up the designer’s eclectic nature by curating collections that push gender roles, play with surrealism, and more.

For its Fall 2023 Ready-to-Wear collection, Carolina Herrera displayed designs with an opulent feel. The show occurred at the Plaza Hotel in NYC, a hotel known for accommodating the rich and famous. The Plaza Hotel’s interior has many gold accents, contributing to the collection’s luxurious vibe.

Gordon was extremely inspired by Empress Elizabeth of Austria due to her ability to “break rules and stand out,” per Carolina Herrera’s Instagram. The collection hones in on the “unapologetic embrace of beauty and high drama.”

Carolina Herrera’s fall 2023 collection played with a wide range of colors including white, black, yellow, pink, purple, and gold. The first few looks in the collection were in an all-black-and-white color palette, affirming that Carolina is chic.

The collection then transcended into vibrant pinks, purples, and yellows which felt reminiscent of springtime, but the silhouettes of the garments were fit for fall. To wrap up the array of colors presented by the fashion house, the runway became gilded in gold looks.

Carolina Herrera and Wes Gordon also played with patterns and surrealism. The collection featured designs with stripes, florals, and other embellishments such as lace. Many of the looks featured full, voluminous skirts, capes, and structured bodices.

Gordon pushed gender roles in this collection as well, featuring designs with tailored pants, ties, and blazers. There was also an abundance of gowns and cocktail dresses.

Overall, Carolina Herrera’s fall 2023 collection was sumptuous and chic. From structured suits to voluminous skirts, the fashion house painted a picture of luxury in New York this fashion week.
