Addison Rae Takes New York

On the first Friday of October, Addison Rae performed her second New York show at Terminal 5—located in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan. The concert marked her 8th performance on the North American leg of her world tour.

The Addison Tour is Rae’sdebut headlining tour, spanning 32 shows across North America, Europe, and Australia.

Rae’s debut album, Addison, was met with both critical and commercial success. The album mixes a variety of genres from trip-hop to electro-pop, while finding cohesion through Rae’s pop culture references and visual identity. With her music videos differing significantly from one to another, fans eagerly waited to see how Addison would bring her vision to the stage.

After waiting in line, we arrived inside the intimate venue. An iron gate with an “A” inscribed stood tall on stage as smoke surrounded it. Without an opener, we waited patiently as songs by Britney Spears, Lana Del Rey, and LCD Soundsystem flooded the space. After an hour had passed, the lights went down and her dancers appeared on stage, opening the gates.

Rae opened the show with an extended version of “Fame Is A Gun,” a synth pop track that details her relationship to fame and its highs and lows. Rae began the performance in a whimsical dress, which her dancers promptly ripped off to reveal a neon spandex ensemble.

Throughout the show, Addison continuously expressed her gratitude for the support of her fans. When performing the “Von Dutch Remix,” a Charli XCX song in which Rae ad-libbed a now-famous scream, she invited three fans from the crowd to join in with her. The whole venue erupted for the iconic scream. At the end, the fans took a few photos with Rae and her dancers.

Following the costume change, Addison emerged in a sequined Versace outfit. Rae performed full choreography for many of the remaining songs, including “In the Rain,” “Aquamarine,” and “Times Like These.” During “Money Is Everything,” cannons shot out confetti and dollar bills emblazoned with  Addison’s face.

To conclude the set, Rae’s dancers helped her into a wedding-esque gown, and Addison performed her lead single “Diet Pepsi.” Following the performance, Addison once again expressed her sincere appreciation to all of the fans in attendance before exiting the stage.

The vibe at Terminal 5 was electric—between the crowd's energy and Rae’s stage presence. After the show, fans were buzzing with excitement, but wishing it had lasted longer. With New York being the name of the first track on her album, it’s clear she has a deep affection for the city and, hopefully, will be back very soon.
