We’ve got big expectations for Olivia Rodrigo x Chappell Roan newest music video accessories. From a retro game show aesthetic to over-the-top accessory looks, Oliva Rodrigo and Chappell Roan are bringing girlhood back to the screen. This year we won’t settle for a boy or girl with a fake job; instead, we're settling on retro accessories!

On October 13, 2026, Olivia Rodrigo announced a collaboration with Chappell Roan on Instagram, sharing a photograph of herself and Chappell on the back of a vintage convertible. The “Expectations" music video is inspired by the golden age of grainy televised trivia and opens with a Jeopardy! -style setup. In Olivia's first appearance, we see her in multiple styles: from pink cat-eye sunglasses to a birdcage veil hat, a 2010 Tony Bowls prom dress, and a punky checkered dress. All the outfits show the different aesthetics throughout the 80s. Following Chappell Roan's appearance on a game show called Sister Squabble, playing against the Rodrigo’s team, wearing a teal skirt‑suit and a perm‑bixie wig.

In the music video, we see a heavy focus on a retro-inspired theme, showing accessories like hair bows, matching feathered shoulder pieces, cat‑eye sunglasses, and my personal favorites— funky tights and Chappell Roan’s red platform pumps.

Fun Fact: Olivia and Chappell were having a hard time writing the second verse and needed inspiration. In Olivia interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, “I have a vivid memory of being in the studio with you, Chappell, and we were trying to write the second verse, and I was telling you all of the crazy stuff that boys have done to me,” Rodrigo said. “And you’re like, ‘Oh my god, you need to start dating girls. This is crazy.”

Accessories are the primary visual of the video, moving far beyond simple costume choices to become an iconic outfit. Chappell and Olivia even pull off a matching twin look with their shoulder-feathered pieces that so many people absolutely adore and are a personal favorite accessory of mine; Chappell pulls off a hot pink feathered shoulder piece in a floral cropped top and sparkling green miniskirt, while Olivia has a light blue feathered shoulder piece in a retro‑inspired polka‑dot and gold metallic outfit.

Another standout accessory is the use of fingerless gloves, pulling off a punk aesthetic, paired with candy-colored bangles stacked high on the wrists. Even the props act as accessories too! The yellow convertible that was first shown in the promo for the music video has a retro chrome detail and matches their 80s-style clothing, making it into a nostalgic road-trip fantasy.

Because of the collaboration, Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan are bringing back girlhood and showing us that we have evolved, and we will ask for more of this stylish accessory look!
