The Last Ten Years

From the clean girl aesthetic to the second coming of 90s looks, fashion in the last decade has not only evolved but has been made new again. Through method dressing and the renewal of iconic pieces, this decade of fashion is hitting new marks.

Fashion being a constant and fast-paced industry as well as a concept, always leaves room for the “Next Big Thing.” On the other side of fashion, there are looks that the industry could never fully flush out of its system. In today’s generation, the feeling of nostalgia, especially in fashion, has become a far-reaching influence.

Pieces such as the bandage dress and the classic slip have already integrated themselves back into the world of fashion and have slowly regained their “staple piece title.” From their resurgence back on red carpets to closets, these looks are playing a major role in the nostalgic fashion craze.

Method dressing has become a pivotal determinant within this generation’s fashion theme through looks seen on the red carpets of Spider-Man, Hunger Games, and Sense & Sensibility. Stylists and celebrities use method dressing to express the elements and artistic attributes of a film, upcoming projects, or collaborations to set the scene for viewers.

Moving through these resurfacing trends, the strong impact of certain looks and feelings of familiarity within the fashion world remains paramount to this decade and the upcoming generation.

Moving between the lines of nostalgia and the new look of today is being executed in a way that most people can relate to and recognize, making fashion supplementally important as an art form.
