Are Brooches Coming Back? — The Lexington Line

Well…are they? Short answer - absolutely.

The brooch accessory has made its way into the trend cycle of countless eras, dating all the way back to even before the 19th century. This appropriately matches with the image we all most likely think of when we imagine a brooch; the Victorian era, filled with themes of royalty, elegance and meaningful motifs. This idea surrounding brooches has stayed relatively present due to the fashion of British royalty as Queen Elizabeth was always known for sporting a chic brooch or two. But what does the brooch mean now in 2026?

The brooches we know represent sophistication; an addition that felt traditional, sharp and planned. But today, we see people leaning into a more maximalistic style, brooches definitely included. We’ve started to style them in a way that makes it less of a jewelry piece and more of a way to edit and express personality. Its less rigid, less fixed and comes with a lot less rules.

Luxury fashion brands are certainly taking part in this revival as we’ve seen brooches on numerous runways this year including Chanel, Armani and Tory Burch. They are being used in a multitude of different ways from coat fasteners to scarf closures. The high fashion world is teetering on the edge of the “new age” brooch style, keeping a sense of sophistication and refined placement in their usage but still experimenting with bold details.

While brooches are hot on the runway, they are definitely making their way down to high street style, too. The interest in these accessories are undoubtedly growing. According to Pinterest reports, there has been a year-to-year increase in searches including phrases like “maximalist accessories” (+105%) and “brooch aesthetic” (+110%).

With brooches, we are really taking the opportunity to exercise our creative liberty, testing to see how far we can take it and how many we can add. I love it. Fashion is supposed to be fun, and I think this trend of brooches is exactly the fun accessory we should all start incorporating into our outfits. It gives a glimpse into our inner worlds, what we like and what is meaningful to us, whether it be subtly hinted or boldly expressed.
