Snoopy In Style: The FREE Pop-Up by Peanuts Worldwide

When living in an expensive city like New York, finding free ways to spend your time is very desirable. The great thing about NYC is that… free events like this pop up quite often! With these events, instead of paying with money, you pay with your time.
I waited for the Snoopy In Style pop-up exhibit for almost two hours. But, of course, any free event in NYC is going to be extremely popular. Especially one as unique as Snoopy In Style.
“We should probably get there early,” my friend, Emily, recommended. Thank God we did! The event ran from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and when Emily and I got there at 9:45, the line already hugged around the block. From the entrance on Little West 12th St., people lined down Washington St. and all the way around to West 13th St. So there we stood, halfway down West 13th St. in the Meatpacking district at 9:45 a.m. Around 10:20 a.m., things start moving. About one hour and 10 minutes later, we were inside.
The Snoopy In Style pop-up exhibit was one of the most exciting events this past week for a fashion-loving, Charlie Brown fanatic like myself. A colorful entrance on Little West 12th Street welcomes you into the history and display of Charles M. Schulz’ creation. The event was inspired by New York Fashion Week and the US Open, as the developers wanted to contribute to the huge fashion influence taking over NYC. The event ran from September 2 to September 26.
In the beginning of the exhibit, a detailed history of the Charlie Brown universe is thoroughly explained across decorative walls. Along with the story, clothes, figurines, and plushies are on display from the entire history of these characters, dating all the way back to the 1950s.
There was also a section dedicated to all the tennis memorabilia from the beloved comics as an homage to the US Open being hosted in NYC this year. Apparently, Snoopy is an avid tennis player in the Charlie Brown universe.
Finally, the section we’ve all been waiting for, Snoopy In Fashion! This section had case after case of specifically designed outfits for Snoopy, made by some of the most notable brands. Some of the most popular brands featured were Adidas, Coach, Gucci, Levi’s®, Tory Burch, Valentino, and many more. Each brand has their designs modeled beautifully by an adorable Snoopy plush. My favorite designs included New York or Nowhere’s NYC-inspired design, and Jeff Hamilton’s Knicks design. Staple’s bird nest also had a unique and cute design.
Another cool spot in the exhibit was Joe Cool’s Listening Lounge. A jazzy, western-style room with couches where you can relax and listen to Peanuts-inspired music.
The entire design of the exhibit was absolutely enriching. You get a wonderful display of historic influence and modern culture, which shows the full scope of how impactful Charles M. Schulz’ cartoons have been throughout the decades. Each section had a special design, presenting different parts of Charlie Brown and Snoopy’s stories. The exhibit encapsulated these stories through a multi-medium set up. My favorite of these were the mesmerizing video displays!
At the end of the experience, a gift shop provided the opportunity to take some of the story home as you left. These products included plushes, legos, cookware, skateboards, vinyls, leashes, placemats, and more. You were even allowed to purchase some of the furniture used for the exhibit… at a price, of course!
One of the most popular items were four little tokens for $2. With these tokens, you get access to exclusive a Peanuts Mini Print Vending Machine. These vending machines are very popular around NYC. I ran my luck at the machine and wound up with the “Snoopy (headphones)” print! Out of all the gifts in the shop, this unique print has to be my favorite.
I also couldn’t help but take a magnet or two as well!
The entire exhibit took Emily and I about an hour to get through. Hopping from one display to the next, the Snoopy In Style exhibit strengthened my love for the characters even more. The only thing left to do is light a candle, put on my Apple Orchard body lotion from the Native x Peanuts collaboration, and watch “It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.”
