My Top 5 Netflix Drama Movies & Shows
After providing my favorite Netflix action and mystery movies, I’ve decided that there is another genre I need to cover. Drama film and television productions carry the industry, and have resulted in some of the best pieces of media to debut in the past few decades. So, I’d like to give you my top five favorite drama movies and series on Netflix, that will glue you to your screen. I know this, because I was glued to mine. Many of the films on this list have ended up being some of my favorite pieces of media ever.
ANatomy of a fall
Source: IMDb
This 2023 French film directed by Justine Triet, is the perfect sophisticated drama that delivers a story. Anatomy of a Fall follows a family of three after the husband has been found dead. A trial commences due to suspected foul play. The wife is the star candidate, aligning with his mysterious death. Their son is struggling to navigate it all—forced to face a moral dilemma at a very young age.
In this film, the scenery is stunning and the acting is superb. You will be left with an introspective mind and an unexpected song stuck in your head.
May december

Directed by Todd Haynes, May December might have some controversial themes within it, but the execution of this film happens to outweigh them.
20 years after a couple’s romance hit the tabloids and was the talk of the nation, it is brought up again. A film is set to be made about their story, and an actress (Natalie Portman), has shown up to conduct primary research on how to portray the wife of the infamous couple (Julianne Moore). She infiltrates the couple’s lives, and ends up learning a little too much about them than she probably should.
The diplomat

This series is probably one of my favorites, ever. With three seasons—and a new one in the works—The Diplomat is an iconic depiction of a woman navigating the political world through her job as the American ambassador to the United Kingdom.
This job has tested the limits of her political knowledge, as well as her marriage, and Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell expertly portray a couple in politics who simultaneously hate each other while being each other’s best friend. The storyline is riveting and suspenseful, and you’ll have trouble not clicking the “next episode” button when the credits roll.
Killing eve
Source: IMDb
Adapted from a trilogy of novels, Killing Eve is a fascinating series starring Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer. A security operative has latched onto a string of murders that she believes are a part of something larger.
The assassin behind the killings becomes excited by the prospect of having someone following her work, and the two begin a tumultuous relationship that spans four seasons of the show.
Created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who wrote the series Fleabag, this series is filled with dark humor and is a great source of refined entertainment.
Veronica mars
Source: IMDb
With four seasons and a movie surrounding the character of Veronica Mars, the series Veronica Mars is perfect for your next binge. Set in a California high school, Mars (Kristen Bell) has turned into an outcast. She uses her free time to help her father, a private investigator, to solve the mysteries of the rich and famous who live in their town. Mars is witty and sarcastic, with a snarky sense of humor.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll love watching her dig into the lives of those around her. This show is the perfect early 2000s drama, filled with complex mysteries and a bit of nostalgia.
