My Top 5 Netflix Action Movies

I love to watch movies, and I try to watch them as often as I can. Most genres of film interest me, and one of my favorites is mystery. In my article, “My Top 5 Netflix Mystery Movies,” I gave my recommendations for mystery films that everyone should watch. However, there is another genre that I often find myself pressing play on: Action. The exhilarating adrenaline rush that each perfectly choreographed fight scene provokes is something that I find hard not to love.

There is a wide selection of action movies available on Netflix to enjoy. Since the list is rather extensive, I figured I could help you out and provide you with my top five picks for when you’re looking for a little thrill.

6 Underground

The first action movie on this list perfectly combines highly-trained vigilantes with the pressure of saving the world. In 6 Underground, six skilled individuals—who don’t mind faking their deaths and leaving everything behind—try to take down a brutal dictator. The cast of this film includes Ryan Reynolds, Mélanie Laurent, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. These are actors who give their all for every film they create. Fun fact, 6 Underground is the third most expensive film ever produced by Netflix. So, it’s bound to be good.

Jumanji: welcome to the jungle

A film that beautifully fuses action and adventure is Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. Based on the 1981 children’s picture book, Jumanji by Chris Van Allsburg, this movie shows the consequences of what may happen if you try to play an old, bizarre video game. Four high school kids accidentally get sucked into the world of their game, and the only way out, is to survive it. Along with action and adventure, this film has a sense of humor that will most definitely make you laugh. If you end up liking it, Jumanji: The Next Level, the film’s sequel, is available to watch on other streaming platforms, such as Prime Video.

This next film leans more into the sci-fi action genre. Scarlett Johansson stars as Lucy, a woman who is tricked into delivering a briefcase that gets her trapped in a dark deal with a criminal overlord. She ends up being turned into a warrior—against her will—who has evolved beyond what humans have ever seen. Lucy’s main goal is to try to fix what happened to her.

The movie chronicles her mission of seeking help while trying to escape the evil criminals. Throughout the entire film, you will be on the edge of your seat, rooting for Lucy to succeed.

mission: impossible - dead reckoning part one

This film is part of a long-running series of action movies. Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One is the seventh installment in the Mission: Impossible collection, and is the setup for the eighth and final film. It centers around Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his team, who need to track down a weapon that could potentially destroy humanity if it were to fall into the wrong hands. The team is confronted by a very powerful enemy, who happens to be those wrong hands. This film is another addictive addition to this franchise that has captured the hearts of many—including myself!

The old guard

The final movie on my list is my favorite.

The Old Guard has a prominent theme of immortality, since the main characters are centuries-old with the ability to heal themselves. They had been able to keep this a secret from the rest of the world, all until a powerful person caught on to them. The group, led by Andy (Charlize Theron), has to fight for themselves and their freedom so their powers aren’t replicated with the intent to cause harm. The Old Guard also has a sequel that was released last year, The Old Guard 2, which has even more suspense and action to enjoy.
