Mapping out the "Everything Shower"

Step-by-step tips and tricks to have the perfect spa night at home or everything shower.

I’m sure you have all heard of the term “everything shower,” maybe from social media, your friends, or even just something you already did on your own. Fortunately, as a beauty and wellness fanatic, I got you covered with some product recommendations, tips, and a full step guide to perfect your own “everything shower” or spa night in.

The term “everything shower” relates to the idea of a pre-shower, during, and after routine that basically incorporates every single self-care ritual there is. I think of it like a reset or even a spa night for myself. It all starts before you even hop into the shower to wash everything away.

Pre-shower Rituals:

An inside view:

I personally love to start with just getting the vibe right in general. Lighting a candle or some incense, dimming the lamps in my room, and putting on some relaxing music. 528 Hz is my favorite frequency to listen to; otherwise, I go for some R&B.

To start the self-care part, begin with the masks. Hair and face masks are best before the shower, so then you can rinse them all off once you get in. As for my hair mask, I prefer to make mine myself.

Here’s a simple hair mask recipe for hair growth and long-lasting shininess.

Massage the rosemary/tea tree oil on your roots, and then apply warmed-up coconut oil and castor oil to the shaft and tips of your hair. You want to let this sit for as long as possible; that's why it’s the first thing that should be done.

As for facemasks, this depends on your skin type, texture, or the result you want/need to achieve. Here are some recommendations for all the different skin types:

Once your hair mask and face mask has been applied, now it’s time to wait. This would be a good time to paint your nails if you wanted to do that, dry brush (dry brushing is a way to drain your lymphatic system and exfoliate your skin), or just read a book and relax.

In the Shower Rituals:

Now it’s time to wash this all away. For the hair, I would recommend double cleansing to ensure all the oil is out. A clarifying shampoo first, then a hydrating one. Now, an in-shower hair mask is good if you have curly hair or struggle with very dry hair. Otherwise, I would opt for a regular conditioner.

As for body care, a double cleanse again before exfoliating and shaving (if you are someone who likes to shave) will make all the difference. Starting with a bar of Dove soap or sensitive skin soap, and then following up with your scented body wash. An African net sponge or silicone brush works wonders to put your body wash on to scrub away all grossness from the day– it doesn’t hold bacteria as a loofah does, but still exfoliates and cleans the skin. After shaving, if you do so, or even if not, using an in-shower body oil is one of my favorite ways to pre-hydrate the body before exiting the shower. I love the Lush massage oil bars and the Sol de Janeiro in-shower body oil as well.

Post Shower Rituals:

As for post-shower rituals, I have another article named: “I Learned These Beauty Secrets by Accident” that goes in depth about scent layering, dusting powders, and perfumes, if you are interested in that. If you are interested in learning/getting more tips about body oil, read my article: “The Beauty Rituals of The Divine Feminine.” Both are embedded!

The formality of an “everything shower” or at-home spa night is not only a way to make you feel better about your skin, hair, and body, but also a way to relax your mind and keep your mental health at bay. Hopefully, you have gathered some new tips and tricks for your next self-care night in, or been inspired to take a few extra steps to elevate your own “everything shower” routine.
